Panui - Term 1, Week 8, 2024

new learners

What a week it has been! Highlights for me - Yesterday I had the pleasure of being wrapped in toilet paper by Kawakawa and today I got to meet our new learners. This beautiful crew (above) are on their transition visits, they start next term and will be the first learners in Koromiko with Whaea Murphy. We welcome them and their whānau to the Tawhiti team.

general notices

Drop off and pick ups

  • Just a reminder that no children should be dropped at school before 8:30am.
  • We have a lot of people heading down to school early in the afternoon to get a park and wait to pick up their children. If this is you and you are keen to help out for half an hour when you can, please let your child's teacher know. 10-20 minutes here and there is super helpful for backing art, putting art on the walls, testing kids on spelling and sight words etc. Ngā mihi ki a koutou!

Enrolments

  • Numbers are at capacity in our classrooms and school. If you have a little one at home, turning 5 this year, and you haven't let us know please do this by filling in an enrolment form online ASAP. Otherwise we cannot guarantee there will be space in our classrooms...
  • FYI - As a result of increasing roll numbers our enrolment zone is being re-established. This will not affect the ability for siblings of current students to attend our school (as long as we know about them coming in advance we will ensure there is space for them).

Protein Bars

  • We sold a whopping $9000 worth of protein bars! Of this, close to $3000 was profit for the school.
  • The order has been placed and we are now awaiting manufacture and delivery.
  • We will keep you updated with delivery dates, but we are confident these will arrive in the next 2 weeks.

Book club

  • Book club orders are due back this coming MONDAY

Glasgow Street Shoulder Widening

As part of the South Taranaki District Council’s programme to improve the quality of our roads, Excavat Ltd has been contracted to widen the shoulder on Glasgow Street, Hawera. Work is planned to start on 2nd April 2024 and will continue for about four weeks, weather permitting. At times you may experience some inconvenience with parking and/or access, however, we have been ensured that every effort will be made to get the work done as quickly as possible, with minimal disruption.

hangi

The Tawhiti School PTA has a gold coin mufti day on Thursday, 28th March. They are raising funds to help with their upcoming Hangi fundraiser on Sunday, 7th April (see poster attached). They are also looking for more people to help with hangi prep on Saturday 6th April from 3pm. If you would like to help please contact Lou on 027 511 9002 or let the school office know. Many thanks!

  • 28th March - MUFTI DAY - please take a gold coin donation to the hall before school on Thursday.
  • 7th April - HANGI - $20 per ticket (cash only from the school office or online payment to the PTA - see the attached poster for details).

The PTA and the school thanks you for your support!!

To date this year the PTA has already pledged over $6000 to the school. They have put this money towards: literacy/numeracy games and art supplies in the classrooms, certificates and stickers for our kaiako/tamariki, and beginning of year camps (Patea Dam/Te Wera). They are now fundraising in order to support our marae noho and production later in the year. The money they (and you) raise is hugely appreciated and ensures we can offer high quality learning experience to all our children. So thank you!

  • Two days of league trials have occured at school and our team is off to the Howie Tamati tournament in Waitara on the 10th April.
  • There have been a number of hui and discussions around the format of netball in Hawera (day, rules, length of season). Hopefully next week Sheri will have an outcome and can give further detail about this season. Please still register your interest https://www.sporty.co.nz/tawhiti/Netball-Registration/tawhiti
  • Lastly, calling all sports enthusiasts! With the netball and basketball seasons on the horizon, we're in need of coaches and team managers. If you're planning on being at your child’s games, please consider stepping up to help run the teams. Your involvement is needed to ensure our young athletes can hit the courts!
