Panui, Last one of 2023!

gardening

Our juniors have their trip to Kaupokonui Beach on Friday and then that is camp season done and dusted. What amazing experiences our children have been lucky to have had. A huge thank to those who supported these through parent help,  fundraising, and organisation. They say it takes a village to raise a child and we are lucky to have such an amazing one!

The gardening group was also lucky enough to receive some new items from Bunnings. Thank you Bunnings! We had Shona and Josh come along to school to help us set up our new shed. We are very excited about our new plants, hose and tools!

We are now down to 2.5 weeks left of school...and in true Tawhiti style we are going out with a bang! So brace yourself for a newsletter full of details, information and organisation.

But first, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for an amazing 2023. We feel privileged to have been able to spend many hours with your children, watching them grow, and supporting them on their learning journey. I wish our Year 6 as well as those staff and whanau who are leaving us all the very best for 2024 and beyond.

end of year performance

The countdown is on until we wow you all with our moving and grooving. This years performance, Clash of Feathers, is based on a theme of whanaungatanga (team work) and sustainability.

If you are new to Tawhiti and our end of year performances, here is all you will need to know...

  • Performances will occur outside in our courtyard at school next WEDNESDAY.
  • As we are performing outside on a truck we are weather dependent. If the weather doesn't play the game we will postpone to Thursday
  • We have two performances - a 1pm and a 6pm
  • This is a relaxed family event. We invite you to bring your family, a picnic rug, some kai and a drink or two to enjoy the evening.
  • It costs us a wee bit to put these performances on so we kindly ask for a gold coin donation. We will have koha collectors doing the rounds.
  • Children will get ready in their classes. All children will need to be at school by 5pm Wednesday night in order to get dressed and ready.
  • Our PTA will have a BBQ with sausages, drinks, and chocolate bars - all $2.
  • Teachers would LOVE help with hair, make up and costumes so if you can lend a hand, please let them know.

We can't wait to see you all next week! 🙌

looking foward to 24

As the school year nears an end, teachers are busy with end of year assessments and preparations are well underway to ensure a successful 2024. Below is some key information regarding end of year processes and planning for next year...

On Monday 11th December

  • Children's HERO graphs showing their progress in Literacy and Numeracy will be final and accurate for 2023.
  • You will receive a HERO report comment, summing up the year your child has had at Tawhiti
  • 2024 classes and teachers will be available to view on HERO. Please remember change is always unsettling. We have found from experience that your child's current teacher will always be their favourite...until they meet their new one and then they very quickly move on. 😂

Thursday 14th December

  • Children will spend the day with their new class and teacher.  This will give them a chance to meet one another and ensure that they feel comfortable and reassured heading into 2024.
  • Our Year 6 leavers celebration will be on this night. Details regarding this will be sent home via HERO to our Year 6 whanau.

Friday 15th December

  • End of year assembly will be held at 12pm
  • Those children who are in the blue on their graphs will receive higher achiever awards. We will also present Term 4 Tawhiti Learner and leadership awards for our Year 5 learners who are moving into Year 6 next year.
  • School will close for 2023 at 1pm

Thursday 1st February

  • We are open on this day for whanau hui.
  • We ask that all whanau set aside some time to come into school with their child  - it is important to us that we meet with you all to engage in goal setting and set learning plans for the year. Attendance for the day will be marked - children will be marked as present when they come in for a meeting with you.
  • We will send out a booking timetable on HERO early in the new year.
  • A sheet to help guide this meeting will come home with your child before the end of the year - keep it safe and bring it along.

Friday 2nd February

  • First full day of school for all children

Other key information for 2024...

  • Stationery Lists will be available on HERO this year. More details regarding this to come...but fingers crossed it is going to make your life easy!
  • Patea Dam and junior out & about dates are still being confirmed and we will get these to you ASAP. Patea Dam camp will be $30 per child.

From the PTA

Our PTA recently held a housie fundraiser. This was hugely successful and raised around $8000 for our school. This fundraiser is made possible by our PTA president, Ruiha Berry. Thanks Lou!
